  • #lecture | Patrick Winston's How to Speak talk has been an MIT tradition for over 40 years. Offered every January, the talk is intended to improve your speaking ability in critical situations by teaching you a few heuristic rules.
    • Start with a promise
    • Use a prop
    • Hands out of your pocket
    • Minimal words on slides
    • Express passion about the topic
    • Job interviews. What's your vision? What have you done? What's your contributions?
    • Tell a story. What's your salient idea?
    • How to end. Don't say 'thank you,' 'questions?', etc. The final slide must be labeled contributions.
    • Salute your audience at the end.
